Pete Hines Explains Why Existing Console Owners Won't Get Skyrim Remastered For Free

Shortly after its E3 2016 reveal it was announced that the Skyrim Special Edition would be completely free for PC players that owned Skyrim and all its DLC.

Naturally consoles owners quickly took to social media wondering why they were being excluded from such a great deal. Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda explained why to one twitter user,

Essentially, because PC players can use mods to obtain the high resolution textures of the Special Edition, Bethesda really isn't giving them anything new. Not to mention the mods are free so it really wouldn't make any sense for Bethesda to sell them Skyrim Remastered.

While console gamers on the other hand have yet to experience Skyrim in all of its remastered glory. Thus they have to pay up.

Skyrim Special Edition is launching on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 28th.
