Overwatch Beta Becomes The Largest Ever

Blizzard has announced that more than 9.7 million players across PS4, Xbox One, and PC played the Overwatch beta. At the time, Destiny's beta was the largest on current generation consoles with 4.6 million players. That is until The Division topped it with a staggering 6.4 million. Incredible feats for new IP's but Star Wars: Battlefront, an established franchise, set the bar even higher with 9.5 million players and was one of if not the largest beta ever.

With Overwatch topping the Star Wars: Battlefront beta, it has now become the largest beta ever. Blizzard also shared that over 4.9 billion minutes (over 81 million hours) across more than 37 million matches were played over the week of the open beta.

“We're thrilled that such an incredible number of players from around the globe got a chance to check out Overwatch during the Open Beta,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “Our mission was to make sure as many console and PC gamers as possible could experience the full game ahead of its launch—the response was overwhelming, and we hope that everyone had a blast.”

Overwatch launches May 24 on the Xbox One and PS4.
